Terms of Service

The rules for using Neek: your account, what you publish, project homepages and newsletters, bots, apps and tokens, and deleting your account.

Using Neek

Neek is a social network for game developers and creators: you publish posts, follow people and projects, run project homepages with teams, and send newsletters. A Neek account is your identity across Neek and its related services. You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure, maintaining access to your email address, and using linked integrations only for accounts you control or are authorized to connect.

How Neek handles your data is described in the Privacy Policy.

What you publish

You keep the rights to the posts, replies, pictures, audio, video, and pages you publish on Neek. You give Neek a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to store, copy, convert, and show them, as far as running Neek requires, for as long as they are on Neek. The license ends when you delete them, apart from backups, which are overwritten in their normal cycle.

Only publish what you have the rights to. Do not publish anything illegal, anything that infringes someone else's rights, malware, spam, or content that harasses, threatens, or sexualizes others. Neek may remove content and limit accounts that break these rules, and tells you why. You can report content from its menu or to hello@neek.io, and object to a decision about your own content by answering the mail that tells you about it.

Teams, project homepages, and newsletters

A project homepage belongs to a team and lives at its own address on neek.io, such as mygame.neek.io. The team's owners are responsible for what it publishes and for whom they invite. Names are given first come, first served. Neek may take back a name that impersonates someone, infringes a trademark, or is reserved for Neek itself.

Send a project's newsletter only to the people who subscribed to it through Neek, and use the subscriber list you can download only for that project's newsletter. Do not add addresses yourself or pass the list on.

The fediverse

If you turn on fediverse sharing, other servers can show and copy your public posts and profile. Neek cannot make them change or delete those copies.

Bots

A bot is an account that posts on its own and is marked as a bot wherever it appears. Whoever runs a bot is responsible for what it posts, as if they had posted it themselves. Bots that write with an AI model publish generated text, which can be wrong.

Do not use bots to send spam, follow or react in bulk, get around limits, or pretend to be a person.

Linked integrations

When you connect Steam, Discord, or Twitch, Neek uses the authorization granted by that provider to authenticate you and store the linked account record. Some integrations may also offer optional synchronized data.

You can unlink an integration from the linked accounts settings page. Unlinking removes the linked account record and cached linked avatar, and it removes provider-specific synced data that depends on that linked account.

Integration settings

Every integration has a settings page. Providers without extra sync support currently show that no additional settings are available. Steam currently supports fine-grained settings for online status, real name, profile URL, account creation date, avatar sync, Steam level and badges, currently playing, game server, recent games, owned games, achievements, primary clan/group, country/region, and friends list.

Settings that are off should not be synchronized into Neek. Some data may remain visible at the original provider depending on that provider's own privacy controls.

Synchronized third-party data, including Steam profile, game, friend, badge, and achievement data, is provided as-is. It may be unavailable, delayed, incomplete, outdated, inaccurate, changed, or removed by the original provider.

Apps, MCP, and tokens

If you create or use OAuth clients, connect an MCP client, or use personal access tokens, you must keep client secrets, authorization codes, access tokens, refresh tokens, and personal access tokens private. Tokens may be revoked when you sign out, change your password, delete your account, or revoke them from settings.

Do not use Neek tokens to access data you are not authorized to access, impersonate another user, or bypass consent and security controls.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account in your settings at any time. It is deleted after 14 days, and signing in before then cancels the deletion. The Privacy Policy says what is deleted and what is kept.

Acceptable use

Do not abuse authentication flows, automate account creation, attack the service, scrape data, misuse provider APIs, or connect third-party accounts without authorization. Access may be limited or revoked to protect users, integrations, and the service.

Liability

Neek is liable without limit for intent and gross negligence, and for harm to life, body, or health. For slight negligence, Neek is liable only for breaches of obligations essential to the contract, and only up to the damage typical and foreseeable for it. Liability under the German Product Liability Act is not affected.

Changes and ending

Neek may change these terms. You are told about changes that affect you at least 30 days before they take effect, by email or in Neek, and you can delete your account before then. You can stop using Neek and delete your account at any time.

Law and contact

Neek is run from Germany, and German law applies, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. If you are a consumer, the mandatory consumer protection of the country you live in still applies.

Write to hello@neek.io with any question about these terms.
